Roll back an application
Restore an application to an earlier snapshot from the dashboard and confirm the result.
A rollback replaces an application's objects with the manifests stored in one of its snapshots. Telark records the rollback as a change of its own, so you can roll it back too.
You need: the Contributor role or higher on applications, without a deny rule on rollbacks, and an application with at least one snapshot. Every recorded change keeps a snapshot of the state before it, up to the retention limit.
1. Find the target
- Open Applications and select the application.
- Read History Changes. Each entry is one generation; entries backed by a snapshot can be rolled back to.
- To see exactly what differs, open Manage Snapshots and use Compare on two snapshots.
2. Start the rollback
- In Manage Snapshots, choose Rollback on the target snapshot and confirm.
- The dashboard waits 5 seconds and shows Undo. This is your only chance to cancel; after that the request is sent and the controller starts at once.
3. Follow it
Open Manage Rollbacks. The entry moves from pending to in_progress, then to success or failed. A rollback still in_progress after 5 minutes is marked failed.
4. Check the result
When it reports success:
- History Changes shows a new entry of class
rollback, pointing at the restored generation. Changes the rollback caused, such as a replica count moving back or a deleted resource reappearing, are part of that entry. - The workloads match the snapshot. Each object is replaced, so fields other tools added after the snapshot are gone.
kubectl get deployments, statefulsets, configmaps -n <namespace>If the result is failed, the entry's error names what broke, and whatever was already applied stays in place for you to inspect. A generation that does not cover every namespace of the application is refused as a target, with the missing namespace named.
Things to know
- A protection plan that blocks updates, deletion or scaling in the same scope also blocks the rollback's writes while it is in enforce mode. Cancel that plan first.
- Snapshots include the application's Secret manifests, so protect the snapshot volume and its backups like the Secrets themselves.
